Resolution to LabVIEW activation problems

Some recent installations of LabVIEW on campus have had difficulty activating, or show that the version is in a 7-day trial mode, or an expired trial mode.

Please follow these instructions to resolve the problem:

  1. Launch the NI License Manager. If it does not come up via search, it should be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\License Manager\Bin as nilmUtil.exe.
  2. You should see the following page, note that status is inactive
  3. Click Options
  4. Click Preferences...
  5. Ensure Use Volume License Servers is checked.
  6. Set the server to: Note, the hostname should already be correct, just add between the host and port.
  7. Click OK, and LabVIEW should now be able to reach the server to activate.
