RCS Accounts

Your RCS account allows you access to the campus network (including printers), the Internet, the RPI Learning Management System (Blackboard), software downloads, and email. Incoming freshmen students are mailed their account pickup PIN in June.

Obtaining a new RCS account/userID or password

In person...

Members of the Rensselaer community can pick up their RCS account/userID or new password at the Help Desk located in the VCC during business hours. Be sure to bring a photo ID with you.

Via email...

If you have a working non-Rensselaer e-mail address, you can request your RCS userID or new password by submitting a request through the IT Services and Support Center accessed from http://support.rpi.edu

  • Your full name
  • Your Rensselaer Identification Number (RIN)
  • Your personal email

You will be sent a "Pickup Pin," along with additional instructions for obtaining your new RCS userID and/or password.

Your RCS userID, which is pre-created for you, consists of the first five characters of your last name and your first initial.  If duplicate userIDs are created, a one- or two-digit number may be added at the end to make the userID unique.

Your initial temporary RCS password consists of 8 random characters, which can include letters, numbers and special characters.

This password can be changed at http://dotcio.rpi.edu/services/accounts-identity/rcs-accounts/changepassword.

A special note to graduating students

Planning to graduate soon?  The Help Desk staff has assembled some important information explaining what happens to students' accounts, e-mail, personal webpages and locker space upon graduation.
