  • List View vs Folder View

    The Course Menu Toolbar is the collection of icons at the top of the Course Menu.

    The Toolbar allows you to add items and change the display of the Course Menu. In order to see the Course Menu Toolbar, you must have Edit Mode ON, located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.

    The Folder View icon will display the Course Menu in a folder and subfolder view.

  • Add a Content Area, Module Page or Blank Page

    To work with the Course Menu, make sure you have Edit Mode ON which is located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.

    To add a Course Menu item, point to the plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar.

    This will display the pop-out menu showing the options available to add to the Course Menu. Content Area, Module Page, Blank Page, Tool Link, Web Link, Course Link, Subheader or Divider.

     

    Add a Content Area, Module Page or Blank Page

    Content Area contains links to content within the course such as lecture notes, assignments, and tests.

    Module Page is a page with content boxes or modules. A user can navigate inside of the modules without navigating to a separate content page. Examples of modules to include are alerts, announcements, calendar, report card, to do and what's new.

    Blank Page is a page you can create that contains a title, text and/or attachments. 

    To add a Content Area, Module Page or Blank Page point your mouse over the plus signcourse menu toolbar plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar to display the pop-out menu. Scroll to and click the area/page you want to add.

    The Add Content Area window will appear. Enter a Name for the content area in the Name field. Click on the check box Available to Users. Click Submit.

  • Add a Tool Link, Web Link or Course Link

    To work with the Course Menu, make sure you have Edit Mode ON which is located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.

    Tool link is a link to any type of course tools within your course, such as Announcements, Blogs, Calendar, Collaboration, Discussion Board, Groups, or Wikis.

    To add a Tool Link to the course menu, point to the plus sign course menu toolbar plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar to display the pop-out menu. Scroll to and click Tool Link.

    The Add Tool Link window will appear. Enter a name in the Name text box. Select the Type: and click on the check box to the left of Available to users. Click Submit.

    Add Web Link

    Web Link is a link to an external website.

    To add a Web Link to the course menu, point to the plus sign course menu toolbar plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar to display the pop-out menu. Scroll to and click Web Link.

    The Add Web Link window will appear. Enter a name for the Web Link in the Name text box. Enter the web addressin the URL field and click on the check box to the left of Available to users. Click Submit.

    Add a Course Link

    Course Link is a link to existing course content.

    To add a Course Link to the course menu, point to the plus sign course menu toolbar plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar to display the pop-out menu. Scroll to and click Course Link.

    The Course Link window will appear. Click Browse to locate the existing content you want to link to.

    The Select Course Link: window will appear. Navigate to and click on the Course Link you want to add to the Course Menu.

    Once you select the content link, the Name will Auto-fill. You can change the name of the link that will display on the Course Menu. Click on the check box to the left of Available to users. Click Submit.

  • Add a Divider Line

    To work with the Course Menu, make sure you have Edit Mode ON which is located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.

    Divider is a line used to separate links or groups of links on the Course Menu.

    To add a Divider to the course menu, point to the plus sign course menu toolbar plus sign on the Course Menu Toolbar to display the pop-out menu. Scroll to and click Divider.

    Divider line will be added to the bottom of the Course Menu.

    To reorder the Divider Line, hover the mouse pointer over the Divider link.

    Double-arrows will display to the left of the Divider link. Click and hold the mouse button down on the double-arrows and drag the item to the desired location. Release the mouse button.

  • Reorder, Rename, Hide and Delete Links

    To work with the Course Menu, make sure you have Edit Mode ON, which is located in the upper right-hand corner of your course.

    Reorder the Course Menu

    To reorder the Course Menu, hover the mouse pointer over the link you want to move.

    Double-arrows will display to the left of the menu item link. Click and hold the mouse button down on the double-arrows and drag the item to the desired location. Release the mouse button.

    Note: You can also reorder the Course Menu items by using the Reorder Icon.

    Click the Reorder icon.

    The Reorder: Menu Items pop-out menu will appear.

    Click the menu item you want to move. Click the up or down arrow to move the menu item into the new order. Once complete, click Submit.

    Rename Menu Items

    To rename an item on the Course Menu, hover the mouse pointer over the link you want to rename. Click on thedrop-down arrow that appears to the right of the menu name.

    The Course Menu Item Options window will appear. Click Rename Link.

    The Course Menu Link will change to an editable textbox. Enter the new name and click on the green check markor press Enter.

    Hide Menu Items

    To hide an item on the Course Menu, hover the mouse pointer over the link you want to rename. Click on the drop-down arrow that appears to the right of the menu name.

    The Course Menu Item Options window will appear. Click Hide Link.

    The Course Menu Item will be hidden designated with the hidden symbol.

    Delete a Course Menu Item

    To delete an item on the Course Menu, hover the mouse pointer over the link you want to rename. Click on thedrop-down arrow that appears to the right of the menu name.

    The Course Menu Item Options window will appear. Click Delete.

    A pop-up window will appear asking "Are you sure you want to delete? Click OK.

  • Hide Course Menu

    The menu on the left-hand side can be hidden to give you more "real-estate" on your screen. Hover your mouse over the light-gray bar between the course menu and course content.

     The mouse will change to a double-ended arrow and the bar between the course menu and the course content will turn dark-gray.

    When the mouse changes to a double-ended arrow and the light gray bar changes dark gray, click the dark gray bar. This will hide the course menu.

    To display the course menu again, click on the light gray bar.

  • Course-to-Course Navigation

    Course-to-Course Navigation

    It's very simple to navigate between courses you're instructing without having to go back to My RPILMS. Click on Course-to-Course Navigation icon, located in the upper left-hand corner next to the Home icon.

    Scroll to and click Course Name you wish to switch to.

    You will be brought to the same page you're on in the original course. For example, if you are on the Syllabus page of the original course, you will be brought to the Syllabus page in the new course. If the new course doesn't have a corresponding page, you will be brought to the course's entry point page.
