Microsoft Windows 10 support ended on October 14th, 2025.  At this time Windows 10 systems are no longer eligible for support including important security patches.  Without appropriate mitigation, Windows 10 systems are non-compliant with multiple RPI security policies.

If you have an RPI owned Windows 10 system which has not been mitigated already by IT staff you must do one of the following:

• Check to see if your device has Windows 11 as an update.  As soon as possible, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for Updates.  If it does, the update can take 2 hours so it is suggested you start this update toward the end of your work day and leave your device on.
• Immediately discontinue use of the device and contact IT for decommissioning (appropriate for older devices which are not compatible to support Windows 11).
• Reach out to IT for immediate assistance with mitigation (appropriate for newer, primary devices).

For members of our community with personal (non-RPI owned) Windows 10 systems we provide the following recommendations:

• Upgrade - To check if it is eligible, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for Updates.
• Discontinue/Replace - If your system is not compatible with Windows 11, you should discontinue use immediately and purchase a new computer if necessary.  For students, our Mobile Computing Program http://rpi.edu/laptops offers new devices throughout the year and they may be purchased by visiting https://sis.rpi.edu.

We strongly urge you to immediately discontinue use of any Windows 10 system without extended support, regardless of where you use it.
