For Data Security purposes, all Desktops, Laptops, or other devices containing Institute Data, it is particularly important that this data is destroyed or degaussed through our Rensselaer Computer Repair (RCR) center. By destroying or degaussing data from decommissioned machines, this will ensure that personal information is safeguarded, and will not be subject to potential identify theft, privacy breaches, or fraud.
Please see below overview of our Disposal of Technology Equipment procedures, and reference to our ITSSC Article:
Devices that contain hard drives and batteries (Desktops, Laptops, Servers):
- Submit an ITSSC Support Request indicating what equipment you have to dispose of, and quantity of devices.
- Make note of the request # and bring that information to our Rensselaer Computer Repair Center located in the basement of the Voorhees Computing Center. Please make sure the devices have the ticket request # referenced on them.
- Our Repair Center will retain the devices in secure locations, remove hard drives for degaussing, and complete proper disposal
- If you are unable to bring the devices, please submit a FIXX request, and our Facilities team could assist with transportation of the devices.
