Eligibility, Ordering and Payment


All incoming and current Rensselaer students in good standing, including graduate students, may participate in the Mobile Computing Program.  Students are eligible and may elect to participate in the Mobile Computing Program a maximum of once per academic year (for laptops).  There are no restrictions on tablet accessory orders.


Laptop orders are placed through the Student Information System (SIS).  The primary order window for students starting in Fall 2024 will be May 20th through June 7th.  We ask students to order during this time to ensure we are able to anticipate, order and receive sufficient quantity for distribution before classes begin.  We will still accept orders after the primary order window and throughout the academic year, but it's possible there will be a delay in fulfillment if we need to place and are awaiting additional orders from the suppliers.  At this point we have ordered extra laptops in anticipation of student demand.  If you place an order we will allocate one of these to you on a first come, first served basis.  If you place an order and we do not have one already on order, or if we believe it may result in delays in receiving the laptop, we will notify you as soon as possible and you will have the option to cancel your order at any time before receiving it.


For laptop orders placed in the late spring or summer, the cost of the laptop package you select will be added to your regular student bill for September.  For laptops ordered throughout the academic year until March, the cost will be billed to your regular student bill during the semester you receive the laptop.  If you received a laptop award, this amount will be deducted from the MCP package cost and will be visible during ordering.
