2025-26 Laptop Choices
By standardizing, the Mobile Computing Program is able to provide the highest level of support to Rensselaer students. The Help Desk is well-equipped to handle MCP laptop-related questions and our Rensselaer Computer Repair is certified to complete hardware repair when necessary. In addition, we're able to leverage our buying power to deliver students the best possible value.
Some academic programs provide recommendations for a specific model or models; those recommendations will be noted below.
"Ultrabook Plus"
Our "Ultrabook Plus" model is an enterprise-grade traditional laptop package providing a larger and touch screen, faster processor and a larger drive than our "Ultrabook". Students who are looking for more screen real-estate with touch and a generally more capable system may find this an attractive laptop option.
*Recommended for students in all academic programs in Engineering unless they need capabilities for more advanced CAD/CAM/CAE/VR/AR (see recommendation below).

Our "Performance" model offers a significantly higher performance processor, higher resolution display, higher performance discrete graphics, more memory and a larger drive than the "Ultrabook Plus" option, so this system may also be beneficial to those with more substantial computing needs.
